yep, i figured out how to combine all of my passions. this past week we had a womens craft night… our project? making these tote bags that we are sending with church’s mission team that is going to Haiti this summer. the bags will be filled with “clean birthing supplies” and a sweet little newborn hat that will hopefully help these women have a cleaner and healthier birthing experience. you can read more about where this project started here.
i’ve been trying to plan this craft night for well over two months now and until two weeks ago, could not come up with a useful project. i was stumped. i could come up with a million things to teach our women to sew or make, but none of them seemed useful or helpful to the women we wanted to bless in Haiti. the organization we’ll be working with had another team there recently that did lots of teaching on women’s health. it seems to be such a huge need in that area and when i came across this project by CraftHope, i knew this was what we needed to do. everyone seemed to be just as excited and the craft night just took off. i was so thankful for the women that came out to help – crafters and non-crafters alike… all for the purpose of displaying the love of Christ in a practical way. it was beautiful.
we ended up with close to 20 kits by the time it was done and many of the ladies were begging to do it again! hoping to see much more of this in my future.
and maybe even hosting one at our new house since i’m going to get my own craft room (that will get its own glorious blog post when the time comes!)
i’d been starring at this tutorial for months and finally got around to trying it out. it turned out beautifully and was easy to follow. since the tutorial for was for size 18-24 months, i attempted to enlarge the pattern pieces for somewhere between 2T-3T. unfortunately for e, my measurements came up just a little too small and it cut into e’s armpits… she was a good sport trying it on, but didn’t leave it on long enough for any photos. not to worry though, i’ve already got another one cut out and ready to be sewn.
i’m hoping one you has a little one that could wear it:) my guess would be its about a 24 month… first one that claims it can have it:)
i have to admit that i have been looking forward to valentines day this year for weeks now. not because i love getting cards and chocolate from the hubs, but because the little one is in preschool now and that means a valentine’s day party, right? not so much… stupid county rules limit the teachers to two, YES ONLY TWO, parties a year. i tried to hide ‘my disappointment when the teacher told me there would be no party, but that didn’t stop me from attempting some holiday crafting with E myself. i had been bookmarking valentines crafts for a while now, but finally decided on simple DIY printable cards, found HERE and handmade heart crayons, found HERE instead of candy… yep, i’m THAT mom:)
E wasn’t so much into helping me make the crayons, but she was mesmorized by them in the oven.
and of course, the child is not deprived of valentine’s goodies from the grandparents (and aunts!) in the mail… she loved opening them and is still carrying them around!
(she still refuses to eat candy, despite the look on her face!)
more blogging promised in the near future… i’ve been quite the slacker here lately, but i do have grand intentions of sharing many more crafty ideas soon!
one of e’s favorite things is to carry a bag full of goodies around, waving “bye-bye”… here she’s asking for help because she wanted me to fill her bag up:)
our church had its second baptism… the first at the beach:)
and some mornings, we play so hard we don’t make it to naptime…
and we’ve been making much more frequent trips to the beach… have i mentioned before how amazing it is to be able to decide we want to go to the ocean for the evening and its actually possible!
first day of preschool this week:( pictures promised!
this pretty much sums up our life right now:) back with some crafting goodness soon…
these granola bars… incredible and so versatile… its been my “real breakfast”, 6pm “breakfast”, and my 3am “snack” these days and I’m totally in love.
paired with this iced coffee, i’m having a pretty good day (just of note, iced coffee is an OLD staple for me, but this type of chicory cold brew is now the only thing i make).
and these little napkins i whipped up a few weeks ago. cloth napkins just make meal time a little more fun, not to mention these colors… love them! and i’m thinking of following suite with the author’s idea of making 40 by the summers ends… okay well, maybe not 40, but I’d love to have a whole stash of cloth napkins and ditch the crappy paper kind:)
oh, and not sure why I haven’t shared this photo before, but its totally worth sharing:) (please ignore the half pajama outfit, josh was in charge that day!)
so baby girl is learning her abc’s! i couldn’t believe it at first either, but after consistently signing “a”, “b”, “e”, and “z” for the past two weeks, i’m convinced she really does know them! she’s also learned “g” and “h” this week. maybe we’ll have the whole alphabet down soon! keeping with the theme, i’m working on a modified version of this project incorporating sign… pictures when i’m all done!
